Castleton Corners

Castleton Corners (or Four Corners) is a posh neighborhood in Staten Island, New York, one of the five boroughs in New York City. It is located in a part of the island often known as”the North Shore, Staten Island.

The term “corners” in the neighborhood’s name refers to an intersection between Victory Boulevard and Manor Road that forms its central area. The part that is Castleton, Staten Island, was originally known as Centerville but it became called Castleton Corners when a post office bearing that name was established in 1872. “Castleton” refers to Cassiltowne, County Kildare, Ireland, the birthplace of Thomas Dongan, the colonial governor of the Province of New York, after obtaining the area from the Dutch, who were calling it New Amsterdam, in 1682. The post office eventually closed, but it reopened in 1949 and is now the main or general Post Office for Staten Island. Its ZIP Code is 10314.

Castleton Corners is separated from its eastern neighbor Sunnyside by Castleton Hill, noted for the two churches that are in front of each other on the western side of the ridge: a Moravian Church (Castleton Hill Moravian Church) on the other aspect of Victory Boulevard and a Roman Catholic church (St. Teresa’s) on the other. To the north is West Brighton, with the Staten Island Armory of the New York Army National Guard as the border of the two. Westerleigh, as well as Meiers Corners, lie to the southwest and northwest, respectively. Todt Hill rises to the south. Todt Hill is a public housing project. Todt Hill, a housing project, is located in Castleton Corners despite its name. EZ Staten Island Junk Removal

Victory Boulevard and Manor Road intersection was the focal point of a major commercial district for many years. However, its significance has waned over the past few years because of the opening of the Staten Island Mall in 1973. The Verrazano Narrows Bridge was constructed in the area where it was opened in 1964. Compared to most neighborhoods in the area, Castleton Corners was relatively unaffected by the massive population increase following its opening.

Castleton Corners is served by the S54, S61, S62, S66, S91, S92, and S93 local bus routes and those on the SIM3, SIM31, SIM32, SIM33, and SIM34 express bus routes. The S67 route, which used to run traversing Castleton Corners, was discontinued in 2010 due to the low number of riders, and several bus routes in the area were cut down to operate on a shorter schedule or on weekdays only.
